What Can I Search For?
Corporate Search
Alberta’s Corporate Registry is a centralized storehouse of corporate information for currently and formerly registered Alberta corporations, registered extra-provincial corporations, partnerships and trade names (business names), and non-profit organizations. This information is public information and is available to anyone upon request.
An online corporate search produces current information on various types of entities, such as how long the organization has been in operation, its registered address, directors, shareholders, declarants, etc.
Personal Property Search
You should search the Personal Property Registry before buying personal property or accepting personal property as collateral for a loan. The search result will tell you if the personal property is subject to another registration, it also protects the rights of buyers and creditors.
What a lien search does is request and receive information from Alberta’s Personal Property Registry Information System database for any liens / hindrances that have been recorded against a vehicle, personal property, individual, or business. Please note all search results will only provide information on liens registered in Alberta.
TIP: To ensure complete search results, it may be necessary to conduct more than one search, in some situations it may be advisable to conduct both debtor and serial number searches. Before you print out your search, carefully check the list of inexact results. If any inexact result closely matches what you have searched, ask to have these results detailed in full for that search result.
Vehicle Lien Search
We recommend that you get a vehicle lien search as well as a vehicle history report before purchasing or accepting any goods of significant value as collateral.
You will need the serial number / VIN in order to run a search for liens against property. The entire serial number as defined by the Personal Property Security Regulation must be used. Do not include in the serial number any hyphens, words, punctuation marks, or symbols that are not part of the actual serial number. Only one serial number may be searched per search request.
Property liens available for search:
- Aircraft
- Boat
- Mobile Homes
- Motor Vehicles
- Off-Road Vehicles

The Alberta Personal Property Registry Electronic System (APPRES) does not record the amount owing/involved for certain registrations. Persons requesting searches should contact the secured party or creditor for more information. All information registered on APPRES will have a status of “current” or “deleted”. It is very important to check the status of information being provided on a search result.
Debtor Search
You may wish to do a search on an individual or business before conducting business with said individual or business. This includes lending money to or doing service on credit for them.
An Individual Debtor Search determines if there are any registrations for a specific individual debtor name.
A Business Debtor Search determines if there are any registrations for a specific business debtor name.
